YeonKyeong, a 33-year-old woman decides to give up on her music after failing multiple auditions. She has been pursuing her dream of becoming a singer from the day she performed in a radio competition but she can’t go on anymore. One day, YeonKyeong receives a letter and a guitar from Hyunsoo, her high school friend she used to make music with. Perplexed by his letter, she embarks on a journey to Wolmi Island to say goodbye to her old dream.

Feeling stuck, young fisherman Yong-su sees no hope in his future - like a fish in a net. As a last resort, he plans an insurance scam by staging his disappearance, hoping to provide a better life for his Vietnamese wife and his ageing mother. At the centre of this scheme is his captain, Yeong-guk, who reluctantly reports Yong-su missing. However, when Yong-su’s mother refuses to connect her son’s disappearance with his death, the white lie snowballs into something harder to chew.

However, one of them doesn’t show up, while another friend, who happens to see the others, decides to join instead. There clearly is the air of discomfort around them, though.

Two friends have recently broken up with their lovers. While taking a walk in a forest in Seoul, they find a bag on a bench. After some time, they travel to Gangwon-do to have their fortunes read. Someone appears out of the blue and yells that the bag is hers.

Younghee visits her boyfriend, Chulsoo who lives on Ulleung Island, in order to bid him farewell. However, she gets stuck on the island due to a sudden windstorm alert. Younghee should have an awkward and troubled day with Chulsoo. An unexpected companion that begins with an unannounced declaration of separation details their funny and mournful last day.

At 6:00 in the morning on the 1st day of January in 2013 80-year-old film-maker IM Kwon-taek started shooting his 102nd film, after his unintentional 5 years’ break. I visited the shooting scene with my camera and had stayed there until the end of that year. I’ve always wanted to record IM’s shooting scene, as I believed that there we could find his secret manual which reflects the master’s large experience. I’ve been through heavy snow to witness funeral scene. I’ve also been to the west coast to follow funeral cortege in the film. It was an experience to put the life in the frame alongside with the death. When the next spring came, the shooting finally ended.

Jin-soo is satisfied with life and tries to make the best of things. When his father disapproves of the girl he likes, he is determined not to give up. However, his resolve is tested with the death of a former classmate and news that his love interest is planning to leave Korea.

Saeyoung is a new employee who eventually stands against Leesun, her stubborn team leader. Leesun is upset by Saeyoung's behavior, but she soon learns about ominous stories about Saeyoung. As the stories about Saeyoung are revealed one after another, she becomes a source of fear to Leesun. Saeyoung's stalking-like bullying continues, and Leesun tries to run away from her.

The children are busy. The daughter has got divorced and is now taking care of her autistic son. The oldest son has lost his job and is busy finding another job. The youngest son doesn't have a decent job but manages to get by through driving a delivery truck and working as a chauffeur. Their parents don't blame their children for not calling or visiting on their mother's birthday.

In a recession-battered Seoul, a young man in the dodgy relocation business must deal with loan sharks and aggrieved parties owed large sums by his vanished entrepreneur mother. Director Kim Joong-hyun gradually turns up the heat and watches his characters boil in this intelligent and nuanced feature debut.
