In 1825, Clare, a 21-year-old Irish convict, chases a British soldier through the rugged Tasmanian wilderness, bent on revenge for a terrible act of violence he committed against her family. She enlists the services of an Aboriginal tracker who is also marked by trauma from his own violence-filled past.

Cosette lives a sheltered, ignorant life in an isolated world with her alternative-lifestyle father Jim. When Jim suddenly dies, Cosette is left to fend for herself. Scared and hungry, she embarks on a perilous journey across land and water and discovers that the world she thought existed is not nearly as horrible as her father led her to believe.

Robert tries to rekindle a relationship with his teenage daughters Emma and Zoe on their last holiday together before the divorce. He slowly begins to realize that not only has he lost access to all that he loves, but Emma, his youngest, maybe affected in a personal and destructive way.
