In the heart of a botanical garden in a medieval university town in Germany stands a majestic ginkgo tree. This silent witness has observed over a century the quiet rhythms of transformation across three human lives. At three distinct moments across the 20th and 21st centuries, these people — each carrying their own questions and inner struggles — inevitably find themselves drawn into the presence of this tree, full of mystery and meaning.

Éva, an eleven-year-old girl with the class plays a war of numbers. She wanders away from his peers and gets lost, as she is chased by a shadow. She finds refuge in an old medieval church in the middle of the forest.

Ten-year-old Palkó has just moved home to Budapest from Berlin and observes the daily life of an ordinary Hungarian elementary school with confused amazement. Juci, the young teacher just started working there. She is the only one who understands Palkó, as in their own way, they are both suffering from the same, sometimes grotesque educational system.

Viola, a young woman who had unexpectedly become successful is searching for her own femininity in her relationship, but an accidental encounter with a non-binary person makes her realize that she has been on the wrong track all along.

In the company of his girlfriend a sound engineer records sounds during a beach trip that reach the depths of his conscience.

The film is following the undefined relationship between the two characters, based on autobiographical events and raw dialogues about insecurity, nostalgia. They attempt to explain their thoughts whilst they cook pancakes or take a walk along the river, while being stuck in the feeling of emptiness.

After more than 50 years of longing, Marika Barta decides to reach out for her first love, the former dance band member. Marika's six years old granddaughter, Manka persuades her to visit the lost sweetheart.
