The action of the movie takes place in a certain fairy-tale town. The main character - the scientist Christian-Theodore discovers a lot about the inhabitants of the city, about their oddities and peculiarities. The princess of the city has struck the imagination of Christian-Theodore, but he does not notice that he is not indifferent to the kind girl Annunziata. The scientist becomes a victim of palace intrigues and intrigues. His own shadow, which appeared to the hero, pushes him to a cowardly act - the rejection of the princess. The shadow wins the heart of the princess and wants to destroy Christian-Theodore. But, as it is supposed to be in a real fairy tale, everything ends happily. The hero is helped by Annunziata's love and the sympathy of the town's inhabitants for the scientist who wants to make everyone happy.

Poor weavers Hans und Kumpan try to enter a town surrounded by a tall, impenetrable wall, where everyone is apparently very happy. When they finally make it inside, the tyrannical Emperor Max demands they make him new clothes that would "bring all creatures to their knees." Karen grows up pretty and happy with the old woman, but one day she sees a princess wearing beautiful red shoes and wants a pair just like them. When it comes time for Karen to be confirmed, she's to have a new pair of shoes. The pair she wants are red leather shoes that were maid for a count's daughter, but were too small. Karen buys them without the old woman knowing and wears them to her confirmation and gets in trouble for it. When the old woman falls ill, instead of taking care of her Karen goes to a ball and dances, but finds she can't stop dancing.

Quickly betraying the scholar, he marries the Princess himself and takes the royal throne.

Each time he falls asleep, he experiences in his dreams the different characters he would later write about in fairy tales including The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, and The Emperor's New Clothes.

Now he becomes king, and the old man retires to feed swans from now on.

Soon the clockwork breaks down, and the emperor dispatches his crow to go look for the songbird. The emperor, meanwhile, grows sicker with the passing months.

The elderly owner of a china shop leaves for the night, and the various figurines and decorated mugs come to life. A demonic figure captures an upper-class lady and does battle with her lord, damaging much of the shop. But the demon proves to have a glass jaw and, literally, a yellow streak, and the happy couple is soon reunited. No dialogue, but some signs are in English, particularly the final punch-line.

The Emperor of China hears a nightingale sing, and decides to capture her, yet he fails. So he tries at least to have her call imitated, yet there everybody at his court fails, so he offers a prize for success in this - the marriage with his daughter. Two Europeans hear of it - a Mr. Tri-Ergon (record label) and a Mr. Trichter (recording horn). Both try with their recording devices to cut a record of the Nightingale.
