    About 1970s Spanish Movies

    The 1970s

The 1970s are widely considered American cinema's strongest decade, when the studio system's collapse handed a generation of young directors unusual freedom. It ended with Jaws and Star Wars inventing the modern blockbuster.

    Spanish cinema

Spanish cinema carries the surrealist streak of Buñuel through to Almodóvar's melodramas and a modern horror scene with real international reach. The post-Franco decades produced an unusually sharp break with what came before.
