A Spanish singer, known as "El Ángel", owner of a nightclub, lives a double life as an expert in alarms for gangs of thieves. In his last robbery, he betrays his partners, and his lover is kidnapped and he is blackmailed. Thinking that she has betrayed him, he abandons her to her fate. Finally, she committed suicide. El Ángel reconsiders his life and decides to become a monk. But his former life will meet him within the walls of the monastery.

Businessman Carlos meets Ana María in a Mexico City nightclub. He escorts her home, and makes a date for the next day. A doctor committed against the revolution decides to escape in a boat. A criminal friend introduced him to a modest revolutionary family to cover it up. During the events aspects of a society in transition are reflected.

In September 1942, the German Afrika Korps under Rommel have successfully pushed the Allies back into Egypt. A counter-attack is planned, for which the fuel dumps at Tobruk are a critical impediment. In order to aid the attack, a group of British commandos and German Jews make their way undercover through 800 miles of desert, to destroy the fuel dumps starving the Germans of fuel.
